ABN Presenters Programme Guide Home

Our Story

On November 1, 1993 Asia's first dedicated business and information news channel was launched. Backed by the editorial expertise and technical resources of two of the world's largest media giants, Dow Jones and Tele-Communications International, Inc., Asia Business News is the region's premier provider of business news.

Today, the men and women representing...
Dow Jones & Co. Inc.
the market leader in business and financial information;

Tele-Communications International Inc.
the world's largest cable company;

have made ABN the essential information source for those shaping
the future of Asia.

While other broadcasters have since launched news stations, only ABN remains dedicated to its Asian base, broadcasting business and financial news and information punctuated with world and sports headlines from a uniquely Asian perspective. This focus distinguishes ABN from other news providers operating in the region and has won ABN continued blue-chip advertising support.

Investing in the Future

ABN is committed to investing in people and technological resources to maintain its position as the region's pre-eminent business news information provider.

The head office, based in the financial heart of Singapore, houses more than 125 full-time professional and support staff from around the world, and is augmented by additional personnel and offices in Hong Kong, New York and Europe. Access to Dow Jones field reporters and 30 bureaus in key Asian business centres bring additional editorial fire power to ABN's extensive programming schedule.

ABN's investment in technology is unmatched in the region. Its inventory of advanced hardware and software include a Quantel Picturebox, two Quantel V-series Paintboxes, three channels of Picturebox Still Stores and an Avid digital editing studio.

ABN is a corporate member and key supporter of CASBAA, the Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia.

As the world approaches the 21st century, Asia Business News continues to be the essential information source for the men and women shaping the future of Asia -- with intelligence, insight and integrity.

A Forum for Asia's Leaders

ABN's diverse programming and editorial integrity have earned it a loyal following amongst Asia's political, business and industrial leaders. Their willingness, in turn, to give exclusive interviews to ABN's reporters and presenters testifies to ABN's unique position both regionally and globally.

As a 24-hour provider of reliable and independent business news and world headlines, ABN reaches Asian business executives and leaders at home, at work, and on the move -- when they need it, where they need it.

Satellite, Cable and Terrestrial Broadcast Networks

ABN is received by viewers through a variety of means: satellites, cable and terrestrial broadcast networks. Integrating stories from more than two dozen bureaus throughout Asia (and live reports from studios in New York, London, Tokyo, New Delhi and Hong Kong), ABN's Singapore studio produces and beams its programmes up to major communication satellites which bounce its signals back down to earth and into millions of viewers' homes and offices from India to California, North Asia to South Pacific.

The value and immediacy of ABN's programming was quickly recognised by the region's hoteliers. Today, the majority of international four and five-star hotels in Asia make ABN's programming available to their guests.

In Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia, many property owners have installed their own satellite receivers (dishes) to gain continuous access to ABN programming. In Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines and Thailand, ABN is accessed through cable networks which receive and transmit ABN's programming to subscribers.
